LECTURES

Lecture 2 - INTRODUCTION TO COMPOSITION

  • Introduction to Basic Composition
  1. Focal Point
  2. Scale & Hierarchy
  3. Balance the Elements
  4. White space
(Fig.2)
  • Rule of Thirds
The rule of thirds means that the image is divided into three parts with two horizontal and two vertical lines.
(Fig.2.1)
There are nine parts in this imaginary grid, with four points of intersection.

When the subject of the picture is placed on the intersection point, the image will be more natural. The horizon is best placed on the top horizontal line or the bottom horizontal line.

The Rule of Thirds is a way to:
  • Use composition techniques that are in line with what’s naturally pleasing to the eye.
  • Creatively use negative space.
  • Create conversation between the subject and background.

  • Golden Ratio
The Golden ratio is a mathematical ratio that, when used in design, can form an organic and natural composition.

The golden ratio in design is reduced to aesthetics, which comes from harmony and proportional creation.

The golden ratio can be used to determine layout dimensions by adjusting the dimensions to 1:1.618 to apply the golden ratio.

TASK
Week 2 :This week Mr.Fauzi began to teach us to make clip art. He asked us to arrange the cut images into three styles, one by one to help us see if we placed them properly, and he would patiently help me adjust them.

FEEDBACK

Week 2 : In the second class, Mr.Fauzi explained the collage art and told us that some white space should be left when flat pasting, so as to reflect the sense of breathing and make the picture more beautiful and harmonious. It also teaches us how to compose, need to have a sense of hierarchy, big and small, in order to have a clear theme.
